A Trip Plan can SAVE YOUR LIFE!

Leave a trip plan with a responsible adult before venturing into the backcountry.  Be sure to include the following:

ALWAYS Take the 10 Essentials!

  2. Compass
  3. Waterproof flashlight
  4. Sunglasses
  5. Extra food and water
  6. Extra clothing
  7. Fire starter
  8. Waterproof matches

Additionally, check weather forcasts before any wilderness outing and dress in layers.  Rain gear, a stocking cap, signal whistle and leather work gloves are useful any time of the year.  Don't forget prescription medications and insect repellant.  Carry large plastic bags for improvised shelter or rain gear, and use them.  Don't forget to pack out what you packed in!

ALWAYS REMEMBER - A Search is an EMERGENCY!  Don't hesitate to dial 911 if you or a loved one are lost or injured in the backcountry.  It is always better to start a search too early than too late!
